Future Water Visions -

Westcountry Rivers Trust & Environment Agency

The illustrations below (visible on desktop setting) are a sketch concept to depict the problems and solutions across river catchments.

Audience - Plan Vision's pitch to the Westcountry Rivers Trust to develop a visualisation and communication tool in collaboration with the Westcountry Rivers Trust and the Environment Agency.

Future Water Visions

Before and after illustrations that were produced depict some catchment scale problems faced today (Landscape 1), particularly how these are created in one part of a catchment but invariably result in problems elsewhere.

The next set of illustrations show some of the solutions that are achievable today (Landscape 2).

And a final set of illustrations show some solutions that are likely to happen in the future, but aren't yet commonplace (Landscape 3).

Because there are so many elements impacting a catchment the illustrations are divided into sections so that different themes, such as farming, forestry, flooding, industry, places where people live or work, and waste water treatment, can be explored visually. It was inevitable that the illustrations went beyond just water, interconnecting energy, waste, food, transport and a range of other systems, concepts and approaches including circularity, governance & community.

The before and after sliders below are just a sample (L1 & L3) of the illustrative outputs that have been incorporated into the platform, where users can explore possible innovations for the landscape futures.

A resource pack of the illustrations is also available for those who are interested.

Please note the platform is a demonstration, proof of concept, version as it still under development.
